ALP held its February monthly meeting at the residence of colleague Rev. Alice Villa-Real. Members who were present were James Kevin Ty, Alice Villa-Real, Allen Yu, Jett Aguilar, Rich Pijuan, Dante Cruz, Jomar Lacson, Tommy Tan , Joseph Torres, Hans Gideon Cerdenia, Edmund Rosales, Lea Visaya, Janice Ponce, Dante Noche, Alex Loinaz, Emma Flores and daughter Erin, Lala Alcantara with son Louis, and Maximo Sacro. The meeting started at around 3:15pm with a direct brain storming on the stargazing sessions being planned by society. With former planetarium curator Maximo Sacro representing on behalf of the Manila Planetarium, the ALP and the Manila Planetarium have agreed to join hands in staging a public stargazing session to be held on February 19th (Sunday) as well as on the February 25th (Saturday) at Baywalk as well as Boardwalk both in Luneta area. Both organization will be setting up different telescopes to let the public get a good view of the magnificent ringed planet Saturn as well as some popular deep sky objects such as Orion Nebula, Pleiades star cluster, etc. Aside from the 2 stargazing sessions, ALP will also have another 2 stargazing sessions to be held at the parking lot of SM-Fairview on February 22nd (Wednesday) as well as on the 24th (Friday). This is being coordinated by Vice-President Alice Villa-Real with the management of SM-Fairview with the help of our new member Emma Flores. The stargazing session in SM-Fairview will start from 7pm to 10pm while the sessions in both Baywalk as well as Boardwalk will start before sunset. Numerous members have already pledge their support for these events by bringing their telescopes as well as manpower to help make the sessions a successful and happy event to remember. Also in the morning of February 22th, ALP president James Kevin Ty is invited by the UP-Astro Society to participate in their Astro-Forum at UP-NISMED's Audio-Video Room. He will be giving a powerpoint presentation on how to get started with Digital Astrophotography. After the NAW discussion, The group had a break as Alice as serve the members hot tea, coffee as well as delicious banana shake to go along with some cakes brought by a few members to share with the group. ALPer Jett Aguilar makes a presentation on the magnificent ringed planet Saturn. He touched on the planet's composition, its ring systems, number of satellites as well as what features are visible using a telescope. The topic was very educational and informative specially to the newbies. He also showed some of his Saturn images which he took using a Toucam webcam with a C8 SCT (Schimdt-Cassegrain Telescope). After the lecture, the group had some free time to exchange views on different aspect of astronomy. ALP president James Kevin Ty also welcome John Nassr as well as Maximo Sacro as the 63rd and 64th member of the society. As the sky was clear, Alice brought out her Nexstar 5 SCT for members to get a good view of the Quarter Moon, Saturn, Orion Nebula and Pleiades star cluster. Overall, the meeting was very good and the everbody wished for success to the simple NAW preparation they planned to celebrate on this great event. The meeting ended at around 7:30pm.
