ALP MONTHLY MEETING REPORT |

ALP held its March monthly meeting at the residence of colleague Rev. Alice Villa-Real. Members who were present were James Kevin Ty, Allen Yu, Jett Aguilar, Rich Pijuan, Dante Cruz, Tommy Tan , Angie Tan, Joseph Torres, Greten Estella, Lea Visaya, Dante Noche, Emma Flores and daughter Erin, Lala Alcantara with son Louis. The meeting started at around 3:30pm with ALP president James Kevin Ty giving a powerpoint presentation on the highlights of the just recently concluded National Astronomy Week in which the ALP had two joint stargazing project with the Manila Museum Planetarium as well as 1 successful stargazing session at SM City - Fairview. Afterwards, he also give thanks for ALP partners in National Museum Planetarium and SM City - Fairview , sponsors like Global Ads and Kodak Philippines as well as guest organizations such as Philippine Astronomical Society and UP-Astrosoc which all helped in making the event a successful and memorable one, He then also give the new members a short presentation on the history and objectives of the society. It covers how the society was created in 2003 to all the highlights in the history of the society. James prepared the ALP history in powerpoint form so it can use as a guide for new members to get a knowledge on how the ALP was created. After a 5 minutes break, ALP Treasurer Allen Yu showed some of his meteorite collections to fellow ALPers so that the members can have an experience of having touched an extra-terrestrial object :) LOL Then, James started the main lecture for the meeting which was entitled How to get started in Digital Astrophotography. He made a powerpoint presentation to help members understand the topic more clearly by way of illustrations, images as well as some important pointers. He touched on the 2 widely used commercial cameras in compact digital camera as well as DSLR systems. The topic ranged from the advantages and disadvantages of digicams, how to exposed and focus the cameras the proper way, and lastly displayed some of his works and experiences on using both types of digicams. Lastly, he ended the meeting with informing the members on what to observe this month as well as pointing out ALP member Christopher Go's recent Jupiter's image which was featured in NASA's homepage on the emergence of the new GRS type feature which he fondly called "Red, Jr." On behalf of ALP, we would like to congratulate Chris Go for his exceptional planetary imaging skill that has put some of his images in leading magazines like Sky and Telescope, JALPO as well as the latest in NASA webpage. Keep up the good work! ALP is proud to have you as its member. The meeting ended at around 7:30pm.
