ALP MONTHLY MEETING REPORT
by James Kevin Ty
Last June 4, ALPers held their
meeting at the residence of Rev Alice Villa-Real.
Members who were present at the meeting were James Kevin Ty, Allen Yu, Edmund Rosales,
Rich Pijuan, Alice Villa-Real, Alfonso Uy , Tommy Tan, Joseph Torres, Jesus Rodrigo
Torres, Leah Visaya , Alex Loinaz , Jomar Lacson , Jon Alcartado , Greten Vicke Estella ,
Max Sacro , Jett Aguilar , Dante Cruz , Dante Noche , and John Lawrence Uy. The meeting started at around 3:00pm with the board meeting to tackle on the new applicant Peter Benedict Tubalinal, a PAS member who opted to join the society to further pursue his interest in observational astronomy. The session started with Peter making a short introduction of himself to the board as well as members of the society. Afterwards, a long deliberation started and in some instances, some personal issues were raised but the president decided to bar such issues from being raised to the applicant as it was irrelevant to his application. Nevertheless, after the long deliberations, the ALP board of directors that were present namely James Kevin Ty, Allen Yu, Alice Villa-Real, Alfonso Uy, Rich Pijuan and Edmund Rosales had unanimously approved his application to the ALP. Welcome Peter to the ALP! Peter is the 69th member of the society. Upon the announcement by ALP president James Kevin Ty of ALP latest member, ALPers were elated and give a warm applause to Peter! To make Peter feel at home right away, James had invited Peter to have a lecture on the July monthly meeting in which he accepted right away! His topic will be on the Perseids Meteor Shower. Peter will be a great asset to the society as his observational skills is very good specially in the field of meteor observations. Then it was ALPer Jesus Rodrigo Torres' turn to give the members some basic FAQs on observational astronomy. He then presented to the members and the board a list of 50 questions which he dubbed the OBSERVATIONAL ASTRONOMY DIAGNOSTIC TEST. He feels the questions will be a good test on the skill level of the members on observational astronomy. After the good discussion of the questions made by Dr. Torres, the group had 15 minutes break in which the members treated themselves with lost of pot luck foods brought by some ALPers to share with fellow members. As they were having their snacks, James and Allen then invited the members to join ALP June 11 Island Cove outing trip. This was aimed to let the members have a better group bonding aside from astronomy activities. They also invited the members to participate in the ALP Sport Festival. The first sport activity during the rainy season will be the 2nd ALP 9 Ball Billiard Championship in which defending champion James Kevin Ty will be defending his title against members of the society who will be trying to wrest the crown from him in July. The exact date will be announced in the days to come. Another event that will be taken into consideration this year will be a bowling tournament. This will be pushed through if there are at least 10 members participating. The meeting ended at around 630pm. |
