Last September 15, members of
the ALP had their monthly meeting at the residence of fellow ALP director
Alice Villa-Real. Members and
guests who present
were James Kevin Ty , Charito Ty, James' son Kendrick Cole Ty, Rich Pijuan
and niece Kurt, Alice Villa-Real, Henry So, Peter Benedict Tubalinal,
Alex Loinaz, Maximo Sacro, Belen Pabunan and brother Jeffrey, Jomar Lacson, Theodore Gutierrez,
Michelle Lampa, Sheri Mae Domingo, Omar Turqueza and son Lance Jeremiah, Edgar Ang, Dante Noche
and wife Rosie, Jonathan Alcartado and his son Emmanuel, and John Lawrence
Uy. There should have been a solar Ha observing session during the meeting but it was cancelled because of cloudy weather. The event then started at around 1:00pm with ALP director Alice Villa-Real leading a prayer before the start of lunch. Members brought along some food to share with fellow members (Potluck). There was an abundance of food at the table that will surely fill up one's empty stomach :) LOL As they were having their lunch and conversation, ALPer Henry So, who was the game master of the Moon Cake Dice Game every year, started to help members understand the rules and regulations of the game. After everyone understood the rules, game proper started at around 2:30pm with members positioning themselves at the long table after they draw their designated number at the table. The first prize this year was a pair of 80mm zoom binoculars and the second prizes were 2 sets of DVD players and so on...... After all the small prizes till the second prize was won by members, the lone first prize was still available. To give an understanding of how to win the first prize, one has to roll a minimum of 4 pcs of #4s out of 6 dices to get it. Another option is to get 5 identical numbers to win it. After several rounds passed and still no winner, the group decided to just raffle it off to save time and the lucky member to win the 80mm binocular was Sheri Mae Domingo! Congratulations! It nice for her to win it because she doesn't have any telescope or binoculars to use in astronomy and the new binocs, it will surely increase her fascination to learn the sky even more! Then, the awarding of the winners of the just concluded ALP 1st Bowling Tournament that was held last August 12 at Playdium Bowling and Billiard Center at Araneta Avenue, Quezon City. ALP newest member Omar Turqueza was crowned Champion while Sheri Mae Domingo and Theodore Marc Gutierrez settled for 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner up respectively. They were presented their trophies by ALP President James Kevin Ty. Afterwards, James talked on recent astro news and activities of the society as well as invited members to participate in PHILASTRO-CHAT, which was basically an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) where fellow astronomy enthusiasts can chat about astronomy, space, etc. To get started, please download XChat by clicking below: After you download and installed XChat program in your computer, select a Nickname or Username of your choice to use in the Chat Room and then select AstroLink as server and select or enter #philastro-forum channel (NOTE: no space in between the symbol # and word philastro-forum.) Since this is still in experimental stage, Chatting time will first be initially tested between 7:00pm-12:00am midnight PST (Philippine Standard Time). He also invited members to join him on September 30 at PAGASA Observatory to observe the M45/Pleiades Occultation event, for details of the event, please visit www.astroleaguephils.org/archive/news/070930m45_occ_news.html . The event ended at around 5:00pm with a group picture taken for posterity. It was a very happy and enjoyable event that members would look forward to next year.
