ALP MONTHLY MEETING REPORT

by  James Kevin Ty

The Astronomical League of the Philippines held their monthly meeting on July 6 at the Manila Planetarium at 2:30pm.  Members who attended the meeting were James Kevin Ty, Angie Tan,  Bel Pabunan , Vincent Lao, Brian Davis , Dr. Jett Aguilar , Lea Visaya and friend Jene Calilian.  Since the sky was clear,  A Coronado PST-Ha was set up to let members take a look on how old Sol is doing.  The Sun has 2 small projection prominence that can be seen under medium magnification.  ALP member Vincent Lao brought out his compact Canon digital camera and take a few shots of the Sun.

ALP member Vincent Lao got to view the 2 small projection prominences that were visible through the PAST-Ha.

After viewing the Sun, members got to cool down and relax before the start of the meeting proper.

At around 3:oopm, the meeting started with ALP president James Kevin Ty giving an overview on how ALP Yearbook project is doing.  James stressed out that the project needs a little more funds to add up to what the society had accumulated through ad sponsors.  He likewise request articles to be submitted before the end of the month so that everything can be consolidated and send to ALP editor in chief Jun Lao in the US so he can start laying out the project and send it back to James for submission to our contracted printing press.

Also discussed was a tentative date for taking a group picture with PAGASA observatory in UP-Diliman as background on July 20 for use in our yearbook.

James also inform the members that there will be a partial lunar eclipse that will be visible in the Philippines on the early morning hours of August 17.  ALP will setup observation and imaging session at the roof deck of the UP-PAGASA Observatory.

Afterwards, with the skies to clouded out lately for members to observe the night sky, some members requested of it is possible to get a simulated projection of the night sky with the use of the Planetarium's projector and thanks to Planetarium's OIC Bel Pabunan,  members were delighted to get  to see how this month's night sky should be :) LOL

The meeting ended at 5:00pm.
