The New Year was greeted with the traditional fireworks at my place and about 3 minutes before the onset of 2010, I captured an image of the fireworks display with the full moon.  There was much discussion in the foreign press about the December 31 "Blue Moon" but the local pressed almost missed the bigger news that 2010 will be welcomed by a partial lunar eclipse! Unfortunately, I was not able to monitor the beginning of the partial eclipse since I was tied down as host to our New Year's family reunion party.  It was only about 3 am when I had the opportunity to set up my imaging gear consisting of my Takahashi Spaceboy mount, Borg 77ED refractor and a Canon EOS 50D DSLR.  I noticed a prevailing smoky haze  brought on by the fireworks and the partially eclipsed moon appeared slightly yellowish-orange thru the haze. I took several images at prime focus before coming back in to my house at around 4 am.  I just hope that this early 2010 event is a sign of
a good year for amateur astronomy this year.
