March 7, 2010 ALP Monthly Meeting  Report

Last March 7, 2010, members of the Astronomical League of the Philippines (ALP) held their monthly meeting at the Manila Planetarium at 3:00pm.  Members who attended were ALP President James Kevin Ty ,VP Jett Aguilar, PRO Armando Lee, Treasurer Henry So, Secretary Rich Pijuan and friend Melinda Machura and daughter Jillian, director Edgar Ang, Pejvak Parhizkari, Tommy Tan, Peter Benedict Tubalinal, Desiree del Rosario, Dennis Buenviaje, Dante Cruz, Christopher Lee ,Mark Joven Cortel , Reynen Rose Pausanos and newest ALPer Christopher Louie Lu .

ALP PRO Armando Lee gave a nice lecture on Observing the Milky Way.	ALP NAW 2010 Chairman Peter Benedict Tubalinal made a summary presentation of the just concluded ALP National Astronomy Week 2010 activities.
ALPers discussed with fellow members while awaiting for ALPer Pejvac's astro time lapse photography.	ALPer Pejvac Parhizkari shows a demo of his time lapse astro works which he will share his techniques in our April monthly meeting.

The meeting started at around 3:45pm with ALP President James Kevin Ty introducing the lecturers of the day.  ALP PRO Armando Lee lectured on Observing the Milky Way.  He describe on the structure of our galaxy and its size as well as galactic gridline differences between ecliptic, galactic equator and  celestial equator, etc.

Afterwards, ALP NAW 2010 Chairman Peter Benedict Tubalinal discussed on the highlights of the National Astronomy Week 2010 activities which includes 2nd Philippine Astronomy Convention as well as the 2 public stargazing sessions that were held last February 14 and 20, 2010 at Rajah Sulayman Park in Baywalk (in front of Aristocrat Restaurant facing the seawall side) .  He then proceeded with discussing the 4th Philippine Messier Marathon Open which will be held on March 13, 2010 under the dark skies of Caliraya, Laguna.  ALP President James Kevin Ty also discussed on the logistics of the said event .

Lastly, ALPer Pejvac Parhizkari gave a preview of his time lapse movie that he made so that ALPers will have an idea on what lecture topic he will be discussing on our next monthly meeting which will be held on April 11, 2010.

The meeting ended at around 5:45pm.
