March 6, 2011 ALP Monthly Meeting  Report

Last March 6, members of the Astronomical League of the Philippines (ALP) held their monthly meeting at the Manila Planetarium at 3:00pm.  Members who attended were ALP President James Kevin Ty ,  Charito Ty and son Kendrick Cole (KC) Ty, VP Jett Aguilar, PRO Armando Lee , Myra Lee  and son Jason Lee, directors Edgar Ang, Christopher Lee & Sandra Torita, Special Events Chairman Christopher Louie Lu, John Ray Cabrera,  Desiree del Rosario , Peter Benedict Tubalinal, Kevin & Matet Dagunan , Renato dela Pena, Victor Espartero, Christelle Mariano, Maria Pia Cuarteros and Rona Lalaine Luansing.

Meeting proper started at around 3:30pm with an informal introductions of fellow ALPers to each other as there were lots of new members who attended the meeting. ALP President then introduces the lecturers of the day in ALPers Christopher Lee and Peter Benedict Tubalinal.  Christopher Lee touches on the history of Charles Messier as well as how he compiled the Messier List. Peter Tubalinal then detailed further on how to get started with Messier Marathon.  He illustrated on what things need to be brought to the observation site as well as slight history of how the Philippine Messier Marathon started out. After his lecture, he invited ALPers as well as guests to join the event as this is not a competition but rather more of competing to develop one's skills. This year's Philippine Messier Marathon Open 2011 is scheduled on April 2, 2011 with an overnight event under the dark skies of Caliraya, Laguna.  If you want to join the event, kindly email the ALP Observation Chairman Christopher Lee or ALP President James Kevin Ty.

Afterwards, ALP Special Event Chairman Christopher Louie Lu  then make a summarization of the just concluded 3rd Philippine Astronomy Convention 2011 (PAC) that was held last February 20-26, 2011.  Participating with ALP for these activities are Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center , National Museum Planetarium, Astrocamp Observatory,  Cutting Edge and Rizal Technological University and ALP would like to thank them all for their support.

The meeting started with the informal introduction of each attendees.	A mix crowd of new and veteran ALPers attended the meeting.
Members listen attentively to the 3 lecture /  presentations for that day.	ALPer Peter Benedict Tubalinal gives an interesting lecture on how to get started on Messier Marathon.
ALP Observation Chairman Christopher Lee touched on the history of Charles Messier as well as his purpose of making  the Messier Catalog.	ALP Special Event Chairman Christopher Louie Lu summarized the just concluded 3rd Philippine Astronomy Convention 2011 which was held last February 20-26, 2011.
