Meeting Report

Last May 8, members of the
Astronomical League of the Philippines
(ALP) held their monthly meeting at the Nido Fortified
Science Discovery Center at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay
City. Members who
attended were ALP President James Kevin Ty , wife

Meeting proper started at
around 3:00pm with ALP director Rich Pijuan giving an
art lecture and workshop entitled "Exploring The
Night Sky Through
Arts." Rich started out by teaching the kids and
some members on the basic color wheel and later how to
draw the night sky with stars as their first workshop.
This will be one of the several astro art workshops that
Rich will be teaching in the monthly meetings to come.
The kids and members had a great time learning from the
expertise of Mam Rich in art and painting.

meeting at Manila Planetarium and stargazing session
at Caliraya. |
Afterwards, ALP
PRO Armando Lee gives a basic equipment review on the
low
cost Meade DS2080AT GOTO refractor. He started out
with the telescope specifications and its ease of usage
for a beginner. He later also explain the pros and
cons of the scope and how to take advantage of its ease
of use to learn the night sky with it.
Lastly, ALP
President James Kevin Ty thank Nido Fortified Science
Discovery Center for the use of the monthly
meeting venue. He also invite the members to join
the Astro Painting next meeting on June 12 at Manila
Planetarium as well as another stargazing session at
Caliraya , Laguna on June 4, 2011. The meeting ends
at 5:30 pm.
