February 5, 2012 ALP Monthly Meeting Report

Last February 15, members of the Astronomical League of the Philippines (ALP) attended their monthly meeting at Manila Planetarium.  Members who attended were ALP President James Kevin Ty , Charito Ty and son Kendrick Cole KC Ty ,  Treasurer Andrew Ian Chan and Iah Serna; Secretary  Christopher Louie Lu , PRO Armando Lee, Myra and son Jason Lee; directors Edgar Ang , Alfonso Uy, John Ray Cabrera ;  Christopher Lee & Sandra Torita Lee ; Joanne Escobar, Mark Ian Singson & Maria Cristina Decena; Ma. Pia Cuarteros, Katrina May Banaag, James Lee, Jan Karlo Hernandez, Bel Pabunan, Desiree del Rosario , Nel Lagda, Norman Marigza, Joshua Herrera, Sheldon Espartero , Avi Sophia Salvador and dad Anthony.

Meeting started at around 3:00pm with ALP Secretary and NAW chairman Christopher Louie Lu who presented the final activities planned by ALP for this year's National Astronomy Week.  The following NAW schedules are as follows:

February 19, 2012: NAW – PAC 2012 Opening Ceremony

1:00 pm (1:30 pm): Philippine National Anthem

2:00 pm First film showing: “Doomsday 2012: End of days”
2:45 pm First Seminar/lecture: “A Guide to knowing the truth about the 2012 End of Days scenarios” by:Dr. Armando Lee
15 (20) minute break
3:45 pm Second film showing: “Starry starry nights by: National Museum Planetarium
4:30 pm Second Seminar/lecture: “Messier Observing Strategies” by: Peter Tubalinal*
5:30 pm Third Seminar/lecture: Sky Observation with Celestron SkyScout by: Christopher Lee
 
6:00 – 6:30 to 10 pm Free Public Viewing.

ALP NAW Chairman Christopher Louie Lu gives a run down on the activities for ALP's NAW / PAC 2012.	ALP NAW Chairman Christopher Louie Lu encourage members to participate as well as bring their telescopes during ALP free public stargazing events during NAW.
A mix of ALP veterans and newbies attended the meeting to get updates on the ALP NAW activities.	ALP President James Kevin Ty discussed the upcoming ALP Philippine Messier Marathon Open  guidelines and activities.
ALP Director Alfonso Uy leads the introduction of himself to our fellow ALPers for acquaintances.	ALP's newest member Katrina Banaag share some insights on how she got interested in astronomy.
