October 6, 2013 ALP Monthly Meeting Report

Last October 6, members of the Astronomical League of the Philippines (ALP) held their monthly  meeting at Manila Planetarium.  Members who attended were ALP President James Kevin Ty and son Kendrick Cole KC Ty ; Secretary Christopher Louie Lu , Auditor Edgar Ang, director Christopher Lee, Justine Garcia, Katrina Fernando, Marlon Monzon, Bel Pabunan, Edge Lat, Manuel Goseco, Per Edman and Mike Enage.

Meeting started at around 3:00pm with ALP President James Kevin Ty welcoming the members to the meeting. James inform the members to participated in the upcoming October 12th International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) at Rajah Sulayman Park at Baywalk, Luneta from 7:00pm-9:00pm.  He also invited the members to join the Caliraya stargazing sessions that will be held on October 26 and possibly November 1-2.  Full details of the events will be further discussed on ALP internal FB discussions.

Afterwards, ALP Secretary Christopher Louie Lu then gave some nice lectures on the celestial highlights for the month of October.  He then proceeded to discuss on Comet 2012 S1 ISON, the expected best comet to be visible for the year 2013.  He touched on how the comet was discovered as well as discuss the best viewing conditions to observe this comet late in November to December 2013.

Meeting ended at around 5:30pm.
