October 4, 2015 ALP Monthly Meeting Report

Last October 4th, ALP held their monthly meeting at Exploreum at SM Mall of Asia. Members who attended were ALP President James Kevin Ty, wife Charito and son Kendrick Cole KC Ty; Treasurer Andrew Ian Chan and Iah Serna ; Secretary Christopher Louie Lu, wife Karren and daughter Frances Lu ; PRO Edge Lat , directors John Ray Cabrera and Ronald Sison ; Jan Karlo Hernandez, Shubhashish Banerjee, Fung Yu Hsu , Joyce Golsalves , Zed Contractor and Norman Marigza .

Meeting started with ALPer Jan Karlo Hernandez giving an interesting lecture entitled "The Future of Space Robots and Rovers." This talk will touch on the history of the current robots and rovers that the space agencies around the world has and also the future of it. By giving a brief background of the robots that have been deployed and the rovers which are currently being used, we can get a view of the technology that we have now. The main focus of the talk will be the problems that the robots encounter and the different plans and technologies that the space agencies are trying to create to overcome those set of problems. Examples of these problems would be the terrain where the robots traverse through and the limits of where the robots can explore. The future of the robots is very interesting knowing that through this innovation we can know explore the places that robots cannot access before. 

Afterwards, ALP Secretary Christopher Louie Lu then presented Celestial Highlights for the month of October. ALP President James Kevin Ty  then discussed on the possible venue for ALP December Christmas party at Centerstage KTV at SM Mall of Asia on December 6, 2015. Meeting ended at around 5:00pm.

Some members then later proceeded to watch the movie "The Martian" which is about an astronaut who was accidentally left behind in Mars due to dust storm and was able to survive several months before a rescue attempt was made to bring him back to Earth.
