June 4, 2017 ALP Monthly
Meeting Report
by James
Kevin Ty & John Ray Cabrera
I
Last June 4,
Astronomical League of the Philippines held its monthly
meeting at Alice Villa-Real's residence in Quezon City. Members who were present were
ALP President James Kevin Ty , VP Jett Aguilar, Secretary Christopher
Louie Lu, Auditor Edgar Ang , PRO Edge Lat, directors Ronald Sison
, Peter Benedict Tubalinal, Iah Serna, members Alice
Villa-Real, Adi Bontuyan, Edwin Gatia and Michella Esparas.
Meeting started at around 3:30pm
with ALP Secretary Christopher Louie Lu discussing on
highlights of Events for June. This was followed by an extended discussion by ALP Auditor Edgar Ang on Mars Terraforming
with ALP director John Ray Cabrera helping Edgar
broadening his lecture on the topic. There are three
major proposals to heat up Mars, each impeded with
technical absurdities.
1) Runaway
greenhouse gases in the form of Halocarbon but can only
withstand hours to days because of the absence of the
Martian magnetosphere
2) Ammonia-rich
asteroid but need to have more than 40 of nuclear rocket
mission about 5000 megawatt power, producing 2000 Kelvin,
to push a 10billion ton asteroid about 2.5km in radius,
but ammonia wouldn't last a century
3) Orbiting mirror about
4tons per square meter surface density, roughly 125km
radius, around 200,000 tons of weight, but the
horrendous size cannot be produced on earth.
This is half of the problem.
Another one is creating a hydrosphere and
oxygenating the atmosphere.
And Mr Elon Musk, sorry, we
can't nuke Mars for the risk of nuclear fall out,
which will actually make things worse, in a century,
rather than a plan for ecopoiosis.
The meeting ended at around
6:00pm.
