Last April 14, Astronomical League of the
Philippines (ALP) held its stargazing
session under the dark sky of Caliraya , Laguna..
Members who were present are ALP President James Kevin
Ty and son Kendrick Cole KC Ty; director Alice
Villa-Real and relatives ; Mike Enage, Adi Bontuyan
and friends.
They arrived at the place more
or less around 5pm and started to set up their tents
and telescopes. James brought along his Canon EOS 1000D
(M) DSLR on Canon EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS L lens
mounted on Kenko Sky Memo-R star tracker ; Kendrick with
his Canon EOS 500D with Canon EFS18-55mm on Vixen
Polarie Star Tracker ; Mike with his
TMB92 refractor on Stellarview MG2 mount ; Alice with
her Vixen 60mm refractor on sturdy tripod .
The early evening was clear
for about 1 hour before heavy clouds rolled in and
totally clouded out the entire sky. Then heavy
rain followed and most of us thought the session had
ended and time to go to early sleep. But after 1:00am,
rain stopped and the clouds started to thinned out and
by 2:30am, the sky started to clear up and the Summer
Milky Way was a sight to behold! Members image and
observe while taking advantage of the clear sky.
Overall, it was still good for visual observation and
some wide field deep sky imaging.
